Ad Fontes Academy is governed by a Board of Directors, which serves five primary functions in accordance with our mission statement:

• To preserve and support the school’s mission
• To establish and evaluate the Board and school governance and management policies
• To strategically plan for the school’s future development
• To hire, equip, evaluate and support the President in implementing the operational plan
• To provide adequate funding to fulfill the strategic plan

Brad Ward
Board Chair
Mr. Ward is founder and President of Integrity Enterprise Solutions. He previously served as Vice President with Science Applications International Corporation, the nation’s largest employee-owned research and engineering company, where he managed the Geospatial Technologies Operation. Brad is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a veteran of the US Navy and served as a nuclear submarine officer. Brad’s daughter Samantha graduated from Ad Fontes in 2005. Brad and his wife, Mary, have two children, and reside in Chantilly, Virginia. They are members of McLean Bible Church. He has served on the Board since 2004.

Rob Hughes
Vice Chair
Mr. Hughes is a retired US Air Force fighter pilot (F-15) and strategic reconnaissance navigator (RC-135) with over 4,000 hours of flight time. He was also a US Air and Defense attache in both Russia and Ukraine. Mr. Hughes is an Eagle Scout and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Baylor University, and an MA in Management from Webster University. Mr. Hughes is an Elder at Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield. He and his wife, Cheryl, live in Springfield, VA and have four children: Eric, David, Kirsten, and Colin. Colin is entering 10th grade at Ad Fontes. He has served on the Board since 2009.

Rob Ball
Treasurer
Mr. Ball has had five children graduate from Ad Fontes with a daughter entering 11th grade. Rob and his wife, Alice, reside in Franklin Farms. They are members of Sovereign Grace Church in Fairfax. He has served on the Board since 2006.

Hal Lindsey
Secretary
Mr. Lindsey serves as Director of Sales and Business Development for Bombardier Transportation, with focus on the provision of Operations and Maintenance and Car Overhaul services for rail transit authorities in the Southeastern and Central regions of the United States. He has served in the transit industry for some 30 years, having worked for a private sector operator of transit, a nationally known engineering and consulting firm and in a prior position at Bombardier Transportation. Hal holds a BSBA from the University of Central Florida, where he lived prior to moving to Northern Virginia in 1998. Two of Hal’s four sons, Jared and Micah, graduated from Ad Fontes Academy. He and his wife, Lori, reside in Ashburn, VA and attend the Sovereign Grace Church of Fairfax. He has served on the Board since 2000.

Nissa Clavelli
Mrs. Clavelli is a graduate of George Mason University with a degree in Government and Politics. She is Business Development Manager at Emblemax in Chantilly, Virginia. Nissa, her husband, and two children, who attend Ad Fontes, reside in Western Loudoun County. They are members of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Purcellville. She has served on the Board since 2007.

Dr. James Earls
Dr. Earls is a radiologist and is Director of the Cardiac CT Lab at the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Falls Church, VA. He graduated from The Boston Latin School, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and New York University School of Medicine. He has authored over 100 publications and is a well known lecturer and researcher in his field. Dr. Earls is married to Diana Higgs and they have been blessed with 7 children, 4 of whom attend Ad Fontes Academy. They are members of Truro Church in Fairfax, VA. He has served on the Board since 2009.

Dean Luckenbaugh
President
Mr. Luckenbaugh has served as President at Ad Fontes since July 2007. Since 1998, Dean had served Veritas Classical Christian Schools as founding Chairman before being hired as President in 2003. Dean previously served the YMCA of Greater Richmond for 13 years completing his tenure as Vice President over 3 branches. Dean also serves as Executive Director of the Classical School Foundation. Dean holds a B.S.B.A. in Marketing and Management from the University of Richmond. Dean is married to Robin and has three children: Rachel, Joshua and Jacob.
