In addition to athletics, Ad Fontes offers the following student activities:
Student Council
Following campaigning and speeches each Fall, elections are held for 10 positions on the Student Council. The Student Council then elects its officers and begins active work with the Principal to plan student activities and to enhance student culture and community.
Praise Band
In response to a student proposal last year, students developed a praise band to lead weekly chapel and special events. Mrs. Hughes, AFA music teacher, directs the group. They prepare a combination of traditional hymns and more contemporary, Scriptural songs using keyboard, guitar, bass and drums.
Weekly Chapel
Each Wednesday, the Upper School gathers for a time of worship as a school community. Following announcements and prayer from Mr. Popp, the praise band leads music. A faculty member or guest speaker then presents a biblical message and leads in prayer. This year’s chapel talks center around the attributes of God.
Annual Student Retreat
In the Fall, students travel together on an overnight retreat to build unity and friendship within the school community, and to reflect on the walk with the Lord. Team building activities and group games are combined with devotional meetings led by faculty or special guests. In the evening, the student praise band leads music by a bonfire with a challenging biblical message by a speaker. This is a growing, encouraging time for students and faculty.
Protocol
Protocol is a high school activity geared to develop social graces and appreciation and enjoyment of arts and culture. Students participate in formal instruction in ballroom dancing and etiquette. Each Spring, students enjoy an evening with a formal dinner at a local restaurant and a dance. This is a highlight for the students each year.
Field Trips
Students participate in a variety of local, overnight and international trips to enhance their classroom studies. High school teachers will bring students for discussions to the nearby Starbucks. High school students will trek to New York and Boston. Our Seniors will make a special trip.
Student Events
Through the year, students plan formal and informal events for fun and fellowship. At the beginning of the school year, students gather for a back to school party to welcome new students that includes a bonfire with smores, cookout, volleyball and games. Spontaneous teenagers plan other events as a school community such as a High School Masquerade party in October.
